We believe personal development does not stop at the classroom door. The world we live in is complex, dynamic and constantly changing – and young people need diverse, authentic experiences to help them become confident, responsible and engaged. Experiences that allow them to discover the world through exploration and participation. To grow through carefully designed challenges, delivered safely and tailored to their age.
This is where The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award comes in – the world’s leading international personal development programme for young people aged 14 to 24.
Founded over 60 years ago in the United Kingdom, the Award is now delivered in more than 130 countries and territories worldwide. Internationally recognised and supported by the British Royal Family, with HRH The Prince Edward as President of the International Foundation, the Award has positively influenced the lives of millions of young people.
In Romania, the programme operates under the patronage of Her Majesty Margareta, Custodian of the Romanian Crown, reflecting a strong and lasting commitment to the future of young people.
Available at three levels – Bronze, Silver and Gold – the programme is structured around four sections: Volunteering, Skills, Physical Activity and the Adventurous Journey. At Gold level, participants also complete a Residential Project. Young people set personal goals, receive guidance and support from dedicated mentors, leaders and instructors, and are encouraged to push their boundaries in a safe, progressive and motivating way.
In Romania, the programme is delivered by the National Award Agency through a network of private and state schools, universities, sports clubs, institutions, non-governmental organisations and companies that share our vision: a world in which every young person has the opportunity to reach their full potential. Through the variety of platforms we use to deliver the Award across the country, we fulfil our mission to reach young people throughout Romania.
