Brașov Running Festival
Where sport becomes an investment in young people’s future
This partnership is built on a shared belief: that discipline, perseverance and courage are learned both on the race course and throughout life.
For the past three editions, The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Romania foundation has proudly served as the Youth Partner of the Brașov Running Festival, contributing to one of Europe’s leading road running events while transforming the festival into a unique learning experience for hundreds of young people.
In 2026, we launched the First Hard Miles campaign together with runners, partners and supporters who believe that the first steps are always the hardest. Just as every runner remembers the first kilometres of a race, every young person needs support to overcome life’s first real challenges. Through this initiative, we invite the running community to pass that opportunity on by helping a young person access the Award programme and develop the confidence, resilience and determination to keep going.
Beyond the Finish Line
Every race has a story. Discover the vision behind the Brașov Running Festival and why sport can become a powerful tool for character development in this interview with Daniel Santa, Race Director of the Brașov Running Festival: “From Miles Run to Character Built”
How can you get involved?
Run for a young person: register for the Brașov Running Festival and turn your race into an opportunity for a young person to discover their potential. During registration, you can support the First Hard Miles campaign through a donation to The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award.
Register for any Brașov Running Festival race and support the cause: https://events.hakuapp.com/events/d1f72241157504dec5d3/registration_options
Or make a direct donation: if you are not taking part in the festival, you can still support the First Hard Miles campaign by helping a young person from a disadvantaged background access The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award and the life-changing experiences that build confidence, discipline, resilience and courage.

It was an unreal experience to be so close to elite runners, as well as to passionate sports enthusiasts. The vibrant atmosphere made every bit of effort more than worthwhile!

It was a memorable experience! I supported Weldon Langat and many other elite athletes, cheered on my friends, and met extraordinary people. I can’t wait to come back — this time as a runner!

I was truly happy to volunteer at such a complex event. I met inspiring people and learned that if you want change, you have to and then, step by step, you can become a champion.
