The Impact of the Award Programme
The Award programme brings real value to young people’s lives by helping them become more confident, independent and prepared for both adult life and future careers. As they progress through the programme, participants gain essential skills, discover their potential and achieve personal goals in a non‑formal learning environment.
We’ve captured meaningful moments from Award Recognition Ceremonies in videos available to watch in our Gallery.
4 Key Things Parents Should Know About the Award

1. The programme is a non-formal education framework
The Award ignites passion, develops responsibility, and recognises personal achievements obtained through completing the 4 sections of the programme. It offers young people a safe space to learn from experience, outside of the classroom. Consequently, young people become more confident and more motivated.

2. The Award programme is internationally recognised in over 130 countries.
The certificate obtained is valuable for university and job applications. It is proof of the skills acquired: communication, teamwork, adaptability, leadership, or commitment.

3. Recognition ceremonies are special moments.
At the end of each level of the programme — Bronze, Silver or Gold — we celebrate young people’s progress together with families, peers, partners and supporters. There are few other moments where young people are celebrated for their personal growth in such a meaningful way.

4. Parents play an essential role
Although parents cannot act as their child’s Award Leader or instructor, their support, encouragement and involvement help young people stay motivated, organised and connected to their activities. Sometimes these experiences also bring families closer together.
- Recognition of non‑academic progress
- A clear structure for extracurricular activities
- An internationally recognised certificate
- Ongoing support from trained adults
Young people have the opportunity to develop:
- Independence and self‑confidence
- Improved physical fitness and outdoor activity
- Creativity and community engagement
- Volunteering and environmental awareness
- Personal organisation and time management
We prepare young people for life. Alongside mentors and teachers, beyond the classroom. In the real world.
We believe that personal development does not stop at the door of a classroom. The world we live in is complex, dynamic, and constantly changing – and young people need diverse and authentic experiences that help them become confident, responsible, and involved. To help them know the world through exploration and participation.
Where?
In schools, youth organizations, at the workplace, or through the Virtual Award Centre.
With whom?
Each young person is supported by an Award Leader – an adult trained within the Foundation – and by mentors, supervisors, and specialized assessors (mountain guides, instructors, etc.).
