Adults in the Award

Adults in the Award

Over the next five years, we are working to ensure the Award is available to 1% – or 7.9 million – of the world’s young people… But this is no small feat – this represents a growth of 600% on current participation figures. To deliver this we need to substantially increase the number of adult volunteers worldwide, making sure we have the right people in the right place, with the right skills to deliver the Award. The Supporting Adults in the Award project focuses on just that. The majority of the Award’s volunteers are made up of adult Leaders – those who mentor young people as they take part in the Award – and the people who support them. They are often teachers and youth workers who are running the Award in addition to their job. There are approximately 65,000 Award Leaders around the world, each supporting an average of 20 Award participants.

They are supported by an additional four to six volunteers, who help to run the Award in their respective Award Centres. If we are to enable almost 8 million young people to participate, we need the support of more than 400,000 Award Leaders and 1.2 million volunteers. This is the scale of our challenge.

Reaching this many adults demands a huge infrastructure. For the very first time, we are combining executive education, operational processes, scalable training programmes for volunteers and the latest technology, to operate at a pace like never before. If you are an adult already working with the Award and want to key documents, you can sign into The Award Community here.
